Bio
Opal Mae Ong lives in Brooklyn, NY. She holds an MFA in Painting from Hunter College (NYC) and a BFA in Illustration from the School of Visual Arts (NYC). Her paintings and drawings are often flat and matte. The paintings are made of acrylic and gouache on canvas, and the drawings are made of graphite on paper. With these materials Ong is able to process opaquely felt experiences of grief, longing and trauma. This Spring, Ong will be attending her first artist residency in Montreal, Canada. While there, she will be creating a new body of work for her solo exhibition in 2023 with Arsenal Contemporary (NYC). Recent exhibitions include "The Conditional" an online solo exhibition with Arsenal Contemporary, "There Was Only This World, This Looted, Ventriloquized Earth" an online group exhibition curated by Francesca Altamura in collaboration with HOOK Art, "Half Past" a two person show with Justin Chance at Three Four Three Four Gallery (Brooklyn), and "Hereafter" a solo show with The Spite Haus (Philadelphia).
