Maria Calandra

Bio
Maria Calandra was born in 1976 in London, England and lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. She holds a BFA from Ohio University and received an MFA from Cornell University in 2006. Calandra is the artist and writer behind the project Pencil in the Studio, where she visits with artists for the day and draws their studio and artworks. This is an ongoing project started in 2011. She has shown in both New York City and across the United States, previously exhibiting with Andrew Edlin Gallery, Shrine Gallery, White Columns, Klaus von Nichtssagend Gallery, Sardine, Fourteen30, Bravin Lee and Ampersand Gallery, among others. She recently completed large scale murals for the Wythe Hotel in Brooklyn, NY and for Essex Flowers Gallery in the Lower East Side. She has been reviewed and written about in Time Out New York, The Washington Post, The New York Sun and The New York Times. Calandra has been featured in Maake Magazine, FUKT Magazine based in Berlin, and ArtMaze Magazine.
