Bio
Felipe Baeza currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. Baeza's practice explores migration and queerness to situate fugitive bodies within the social and historical context of cultural practices. Baeza uses collage and printmaking techniques to create densely layered paintings that process his personal narrative to transform memories and history and transport viewers through past experiences and liberatory futures, both real and imagined. Recent exhibitions include Through the Flesh to Elsewhere, the Mistake Room, Los Angeles CA (2020); La Emergencia de Hacer Memoria, Fortnight Institute, New York NY (2019); Nobody Promised You Tomorrow: Art 50 Years After Stonewall, Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn NY (2019); and Felipe Baeza, Maureen Paley, London UK (2018). Baeza is the recipient of Rauschenberg Residency, Captiva FL (2020); NXTHVN Studio Fellowship, New Haven CT (2019); and Joan Mitchell Grant (2018). Baeza earned a BFA from The Cooper Union, New York City NY(2009) and an MFA from Yale University, New Haven CT (2018).
