Clinton King uses an intuitive approach to explore the potential of material and form. This practice is informed by his history in sculpture, which embraced the inherent nature of each material, allowing the physicality of each structure to influence the final form. Through this practice, Clinton developed an open and automatic method that translates into his paintings. His multimedia works on paper continue to explore materiality and form through the incorporation of contrasting textural elements, such as oil, plastic, drafting tape, and various types of paper. Although two-dimensional, Clinton’s paintings investigate spatial relationships through the use of illusion, layering, and negative space. Clinton lives and works in Brooklyn.
